1. Anti-corrosion coating
Asphalt coating:
This is a relatively traditional and commonly used anti-corrosion method. Apply melted asphalt evenly on the surface of the iron pipe to form a dense protective film. Ductile iron pipe fitting can be successfully shielded from external moisture, oxygen, and corrosive media by the asphalt coating's strong chemical and waterproof resistance.
Epoxy coating:
Epoxy coatings exhibit exceptional resistance to wear, corrosion, and adhesion. It can provide a smooth, rigid layer that is difficult to wear or scratch. To guarantee the coating's adherence, the pipe fitting surfaces must be carefully treated during construction, which raises the expenses somewhat.
2. Galvanized anti-corrosion
Hot dip galvanizing:
To create a zinc alloy layer on the iron pipe's surface, hot dip galvanizes it by submerging it in a molten zinc solution. The zinc layer is capable of self-healing, and it serves as a sacrificial anode to shield the iron pipe components when the coating sustains localized damage. The hot-dip galvanizing method is well-established and exhibits strong anti-corrosion properties.
Cold galvanizing:
Electrochemical techniques are used to deposit zinc on the pipe's surface. Construction with cold galvanizing is economical and practical.
3. Cathodic defense
Method of sacrificial anode:
Near the iron pipe, install a sacrificial anode made of metal more reactive than iron, such as magnesium, zinc, etc. The sacrificial anode will corrode preferentially when the iron pipe component corrodes, protecting the iron pipe component. This technique works well for local anti-corrosion or small pipe connections.
Method of external current:
When a cathodic current is sent to an iron pipe via an external power source, the iron pipe becomes a cathode, inhibiting corrosion and offering constant, reliable protection.
In short, suitable anti-corrosion solutions must be chosen based on various usage environments and needs, and routine inspections and maintenance must be performed to guarantee the long-term use and safety of ductile iron pipe fitting.
