Examining appearance
First, the ductile iron pipe's surface is visually examined to see if it is level and smooth and if there are any apparent imperfections such as cracks, sand holes, pores, slag inclusions, and so on. At the same time, make sure the pipeline's dimensions-such as its length, inner diameter, and outside diameter-meet the standard standards. Tools such as calipers and tape measures can be used to measure deviations and ensure that deviations are within the allowable range. For minor surface defects, a magnifying glass can be used for further observation.
Testing of materials
1. Chemical composition analysis: To determine the chemical makeup of ductile iron pipe, use a spectroscopic analyzer and additional tools. Elements including iron, carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus are the primary emphasis, along with the amount of magnesium, a spheroidizing agent.
2. Metallographic examination: Use a metallographic microscope to examine the microstructure of ductile iron pipes. A good metallographic structure should have spherical graphite uniformly distributed on the matrix, which can be pearlite, ferrite, or a mixture of both.
Testing of mechanical performance
1. Tensile test: Using a universal material testing machine, cut standard specimens from ductile iron pipe and perform tensile tests. Check its elongation, yield strength, tensile strength, and other metrics that show how well the pipeline performs under stress.
2. Hardness testing: Use a Brinell hardness tester or a Rockwell hardness tester to test the hardness of ductile iron pipes. In addition to having a particular amount of wear resistance, pipes with the right hardness are also simple to produce and install.
Sealing test
1. Hydrostatic test: Seal the ductile iron pipe's two ends, add water, and progressively raise the pressure to the desired level. After a certain period, observe whether there is any leakage in the pipeline. Pipeline sealing performance under internal pressure can be efficiently detected by hydraulic testing.
2. Air tightness test: Evaluate the air tightness of gas-transporting ductile iron pipes. Using gas as a medium, check the sealing of the pipeline to ensure that there is no leakage during gas transportation.
Through these quality inspection methods, the quality of ductile iron pipe can be comprehensively evaluated to ensure their reliability and safety in engineering applications.
