As a key instrument for measuring water flow, the correct reading and installation of water meters are crucial for accurately measuring water consumption and ensuring the normal operation of the water supply system.
The correct reading method for water meters
The dial of the pointer-type water meter is equipped with multiple pointers, covering different measurement digits such as x1000, x100, x10, x1, x0.1, etc. When reading, it is necessary to start from the high-order pointer and read the numbers pointed to by each pointer in sequence. If the pointer is between two numbers, the smaller value is taken. Finally, the sum of the values of each pointer is the water meter reading. The red pointer represents the decimal part, which can be ignored in meter reading and billing and is often used for accurate flow monitoring.
The digital water meter reading is intuitive and convenient. Read the numbers on the display screen, representing the water consumption from high to low from left to right. The readings of smart water meters vary depending on the product, but most can be read using the digital water meter method through the water meter's display screen. At the same time, with the help of supporting mobile applications or management systems, water usage can be remotely obtained, and rich information such as real-time and historical water usage data and trends can be viewed.
The correct installation method for water meters
The selection of installation location is crucial. Indoor or outdoor water meter wells are good places to put the water meter so that it can be easily read and maintained. If outdoors, it is necessary to prevent direct sunlight, freezing, and flooding to avoid damaging the water meter. During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the water meter is in a horizontal pipeline and that the direction of water flow is consistent with the arrow indication on the water meter, especially for rotary wing water meters. Areas with high vibration or strong magnetic field interference should be avoided to prevent affecting the measurement accuracy.
Preparation before installation is essential. The water supply pipeline needs to be cleaned by flushing the pipeline or using pipeline filters to remove impurities such as debris and rust to prevent damage to the water meter. To guarantee that the connecting fittings fit the inlet and outlet dimensions of the water meter and are securely fastened, prepare installation accessories that are appropriate for the pipeline's diameter and the type of water meter. Examples of these accessories include sealing gaskets and connecting fittings. It is crucial to consider the flanges' sealing capabilities while connecting water meters via flanges. Bolts should be tightened to the recommended torque and the proper sealing gaskets utilized during assembly.
The installation steps are as follows. First, connect the water meter inlet to the water supply pipeline. When using a threaded connection, wrap an appropriate amount of sealing tape around the thread and tighten the water meter. Do not apply too much force. When connecting with flanges, align the water meter with the pipeline flange, insert the sealing gasket, and fix it with bolts. Gradually tighten the bolts diagonally to ensure tightness and no leakage. After connecting the inlet, connect the outlet to the downstream pipeline in the same way as the inlet. Subsequently, valves should be installed in front and behind the water meter to facilitate cutting off the water flow during maintenance or replacement. The valves should be installed in a convenient and well-sealed location for operation. After installation, open the upstream valve, slowly drain the water, and check for any leaks at the connection. If there are leaks, close the valve on time, and check and reinstall the seals or connection parts until there are no leaks.
Correctly reading and installing water meters is the foundation for ensuring accurate water measurement and a stable water supply. Both household users and water supply management departments should attach great importance to these two tasks to ensure the rational utilization and effective management of water resources.
